In this new comparison the protagonist is again the Samsung Galaxy S8, a high-end smartphone heir to the failed Galaxy Note 7. However, it is the first time for the LG G6, the new top of the range of the South Korean company that is about to reach the market. A comparison between two very similar products that are based on similar and at the same time different ideas. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S8 has a new voice assistant, Bixby, certainly an added value for this smartphone. The LG G6, for its part, has a very specific rear camera that allows you to take wide-angle photos and add special effects to them.

Design

Samsung Galaxy S8 vs LG G6 1

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is an exceptional device that shows the public proud of its huge screen that gives a touch of magic to the design. With a screen that covers almost the entire front. We specifically talk about a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 very resistant to both blows and scratches. The side frame is made of metal and the product has a size of 148.9 x 68.1 x 8 mm for 155 grams of weight.

The LG G6, in this sense, is a similar device with a screen covering virtually the entire front, even though the frames are slightly larger than its rival. Of course, LG has decided to use different compositions of Gorilla Glass to protect the glass of the G6. The side frame is also made of metal and the product has a size of 148.9 x 71.9 x 7.9 mm for 163 grams of weight.

Display

Samsung Galaxy S8 vs LG G6 2

The screen is a key point for both devices. On the front of the Samsung Galaxy S8 we find a size of 5.8 inches with WQHD resolution of 1,440 x 2,960 pixels. The screen is AMOLED and the pixel density reaches 570 ppi. It is impossible to see more pixels on such a screen, and the quality of the panel is exceptional.

Moreover, the LG G6 has a slightly smaller panel of 5.7 inches. The screen has a resolution of 1,440 x 2,880 pixels and the technology used is IPS LCD. Here, too, the ppi level is very high (564) and compared to the LG G5, we also see that the screen is brighter, although it does not reach the Galaxy S8 levels.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy S8 vs LG G6 3

The two smartphones are excellent from the multimedia aspect. The Samsung Galaxy S8 features a 12 megapixel rear camera with OIS and aperture f/1.7 that lets you take very bright pictures even in low light conditions. The front camera has an 8 megapixel sensor with truly exceptional autofocus.

The LG G6, on the other hand, mounts a dual camera of 13 megapixels with OIS and aperture f/1.8 very bright. The main sensor is not wide-angle while the second sensor allows you to take good photos with fisheye effect. The front camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels, with no possibility of autofocus.

Hardware

Samsung Galaxy S8 vs LG G6 4

The Samsung Galaxy S8 has some very interesting technical specifications, although some aspects may disappoint. The processor, for example, is very positive (in the version that will come to our market it is an Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 821), with eight cores and high clock frequency (quad-core at 2.35 GHz Kryo + quad-core at 1.9 GHz Kryo). However, the RAM rises to 4 GB and this is where many will feel a little disappointed (may have been up to 6 GB). On the other hand, we found 64 GB of internal memory and the possibility to expand the memory through MicroSD up to 256 GB.

The LG G6 has a slightly less powerful processor (and yet the most powerful on the market), a Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 821 that is hampered (against the Galaxy S8) by four cores (dual-core at 2.35 GHz Kryo + dual-core at 1.6 GHz Kryo) and the Adreno 530 GPU. Here we also find 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory. The internal memory can be expanded up to 256 GB via MicroSD.

Battery Life

Samsung Galaxy S8 vs LG G6 5

After the problems of Galaxy Note 7, Samsung did not want to force the situation in terms of battery for its new top of the range, so the Galaxy S8 has a battery with the same capacity as the Galaxy S7 (3,000 mAh). And although the battery of 3,000 mAh may seem crazy considering the hardware with which it is equipped, the processor provides very good energy efficiency and also the software optimization allows us to obtain a satisfactory battery life. In other words, you will get an average of 4 hours of intensive viewing, up to an uninterrupted 12/15h activity period, and up to 48 hours of normal use.

The LG G6 has a battery of 3,300 mAh, able to really satisfy the needs of the user without any problem. Before a high consumption is able to reach 48 hours of use, and always ensures the battery life for 24 hours, more than enough for all those users of WhatsApp, Skype and/or Messenger. In case of greater use, a user can complete up to an average of 5 hours of screen in intensive mode, providing an hour more of battery life than its rival.
